Cold Chain Logistics Excellence: How CCT Has All Bases Covered

Following our acquisition of Tower Cold Chain, we are now even better placed to meet the critical needs of customers who require high-quality temperature-controlled cold chain logistics solutions for pharmaceutical and life science products.

The addition of the renowned Tower range extends the Cold Chain Technologies range to deliver a truly comprehensive range of products and services, tailored to the varying demands of the market.

When choosing a cold chain logistics solution, there are a number of key criteria that need to be met, depending on what is being shipped and where to. By understanding the specifics of your application, we can help you to select the optimum container from our extensive range.

Amongst the factors we consider are:

  • Payload size: The pharmaceutical industry encompasses everything from high-volume medicines to small-batch cell & gene therapies. Accordingly, our portfolio of temperature-controlled containers is split into parcel and pallet-sized options, to provide the best fit for each specific shipment.

  • Payload value: Not all drugs are equal, with clinical trials and personalised medicines being amongst the highest value medicines requiring shipment. We will take into account the nature of the product being shipped, to offer the optimum blend of product protection, container size and temperature control for your needs.

  • Geography: Cold Chain Technologies is truly global, with a network of 54 regional hubs spanning 26 countries, strategically located in proximity to leading clusters of pharmaceutical manufacturing and busy shipping lanes. Equally, we have products adapted to suit the challenges of air, sea and road transportation.

  • Reach, destination and duration: We will always take into account the ultimate destination of your payload when advising on the most suitable temperature-controlled container solution. Whether international or domestic, first or last mile, or direct to patient, we will consider how long your payload needs to be protected and ensure our containers go above and beyond its requirements.

  • Temperature: Perhaps the most important consideration. The efficacy of a drug will be severely impacted if it is not kept within the appropriate temperature range. Our container range covers ambient, refrigerated, frozen and dry ice options, backed by robust extensive testing for your preferred duration – with options spanning up to and beyond 120 hours. To ensure precise monitoring of temperature deviations, we also utilise data logging devices. These devices provide temperature recording within single-use or reusable formats, and are capable of storing data for extended periods. Using our Digital portals, you can track and monitor the location, condition of your shipment and gain assurance of its perfect arrival.

  • Container type and model: Depending on the payload and destination, it is important to consider whether a single-use, semi-reusable or fully reusable container will be most appropriate for your cold chain logistics shipment. This choice will be determined by factors such as the ease or complexity of return logistics, and your organisation’s approach to circularity and sustainability. To help you find the right business model for selecting temperature-controlled logistics, we also offer products to buy or rent; some are available through self-service.

By considering all of the above factors, we have all bases covered to help you deliver your products safely and effectively wherever they need to go.

Every day, we help customers in pharmaceuticals, 3PL, airlines, life sciences, biotechnology, specialty pharmacy, specialised couriers, animal health, clinical trials, cell and gene therapy, and wholesale sectors.

With more than 50 years of expertise in the cold chain logistics industry, we have a deep understanding of the needs of these sectors – and we take pride in our proven ability to design and deliver effective solutions that address your unique challenges.
